Being thrown out mid-match with a removal message is a known server-side fault, not a punishment. BULKHEAD listed "players being unexpectedly kicked from servers during play" as one of the three problems addressed by Launch Stability Hotfix #1 on 10 September 2026.

That places it in the same family as the login queue and the join failures: a launch-load problem on the developer side. There is nothing in your configuration to repair, and nothing you did to cause it.

What the hotfix confirmed

The official announcement names three symptoms together: players unable to join servers, players being unexpectedly kicked from servers during play, and extended login queue times. Grouping them signals a shared cause on the service side rather than three unrelated bugs.

The hotfix also forced every logged-in player to restart and update, which produced a second wave of removals that were the deployment rather than the bug. If you were dropped and immediately asked to download an update, that was the patch landing.

The team described admitting players back "in controlled batches" afterwards, so a removal during that window was often followed by a queue rather than an immediate rejoin.

Telling a server kick from a ban

A server kick removes you from one match and lets you queue again. A ban stops you reaching a match at all and says so explicitly. If you can rejoin, you were not banned.

This distinction was genuinely confusing at launch because incorrect bans were happening at the same time, and both feel like being ejected. The test is whether the game lets you back in.

An anti-cheat action also does not present as a generic removal message. If Elytra is involved you are blocked from entry rather than dropped from a round in progress.

When it is your connection instead

A local network fault produces the same visible result, so it is worth ruling out once rather than repeatedly. If everyone in your squad is removed simultaneously, it is the server; if only you are, look at your connection.

A wired connection, no VPN and no active large downloads eliminate the ordinary causes. Beyond that there is little to tune, because the game requires only a broadband connection and publishes no port or NAT requirements.

Repeated removals that survive the launch-window fixes and affect only you are worth treating as a connection problem rather than waiting out.

What BULKHEAD has not published

The underlying cause has not been described. The hotfix says what was fixed, not what was wrong, so whether the kicks came from session handling, capacity or the account service is unknown.

There is no published idle or AFK timer either, which matters because some removals during a long match may be an intended timeout rather than a fault. No figure exists for how long is too long.

No compensation or progress-restoration policy has been announced for matches lost to a removal.

Removal questions answered

Short answers to the most common removal problems.

  • Does "removed from the match" mean I was banned? No. If you can queue and rejoin, it was a server kick. A ban blocks entry and says so.
  • Is it the anti-cheat?Unlikely. Elytra blocks you from entering rather than dropping you from a round in progress.
  • Is it my connection or the server? If your whole squad is removed at once it is the server. If only you are, check your connection.
  • Has BULKHEAD fixed it?Launch Stability Hotfix #1 on 10 September addressed unexpected kicks alongside the queue and join failures.
  • Why was I dropped and then asked to update? That was the hotfix deploying. It forced all logged-in players to restart and download the client update.
  • Is there an AFK timer?None has been published, so it is not possible to say whether an idle removal is intended behaviour.
